Although things may be looking a little different for Halloween and Bonfire Night around this October half term, there is still lots going on in and around Surrey to keep the family entertained. Charlie has put together our favourites:
For the whole family
Brooklands Motorsport Museum
Right next to the famous Mercedes Benz World in Weybridge is the home of British Motorsport, Brooklands Museum. The museum is the ideal location for a half term day out, with sessions with the pit crew and popular classic car rides on offer. There’s also the opportunity to ride around the local area on London Bus Museum’s vintage bus. The museum is open Thursday to Sunday weekly, and prices start at £16.30 for adults and £8.95 children over the age of 5. Click here to book.
Spooky Trail, Pumpkin Picking and Tractor Ride at Priory Farm
Want to get into the Halloween mood without trick or treating this year? Then we’d recommend heading over to Priory Farm in South Nutfield. Their Spooky Trail is a popular attraction for the little ones as it gets them helping the Priory Farm Police to solve the mystery of the missing pumpkins – tickets are just £5 per person for the trail. Pumpkin picking can be done on selected dates throughout October, and pumpkins are priced from £1.50 depending on size. The farm also offers tractor rides to the Pumpkin farm – all tractor tickets must be pre-booked. Bookings can be made here.
Thrills and adventures
Campaign Paintball
Open every Saturday and Sunday in October, Campaign Paintball is a great place for an adrenaline filled day out. Located in a 100-acre forest near Cobham, the paintball centre has 10 movie-set game zones and a variety of different action-packed games to keep you on your toes. Prices start at £27.95 for adults and £24.95 for Juniors (aged 10+) including 300 paintballs. To book, or to find out more click here to visit their website.
Virginia Water Lake
If you’re looking for something much less frantic than paintballing, Virginia Water Lake in Windsor Great Park could be the ideal destination for you this half term. The lake and woodlands surrounding it are hugely popular for a picturesque stroll, a run or jog, or just somewhere to take the dog for a relaxing afternoon walk. It is known that the park was a favourite spot for Queen Victoria to have a picnic! There is no need to book to enter, just park near the Savill Garden or Virginia Water South if you’re driving there as the other car parks remain closed. Click here for more info.
The Dragons at Painshill
From 24th October to 1st November, giant dragons have taken over the landscape at Painshill Park in Cobham. Suitable for ages 3-10, the dragon hunt stretches across the park and prizes are up for grabs for those who can find all of the dragon statues. For social distancing and track and trace, tickets must be booked in advance. The dragon hunt is included in the general admission price, which is £9 for adults and £5 for children aged 5-16 years. You may also be pleased to know that dogs are welcome at Painshill, providing they are on a short lead. Click here to visit their website.
There you have it, some exciting and some more peaceful ideas to keep everyone entertained this half term! Whatever you’re up to during the break, we hope you enjoy it.
